Rich in tradition, cozy, and the perfect starting point for mountain tours in the upper Kaunertal. The Gepatschhaus is the oldest Alpine Club hut in Austria, located at an altitude of 1,928 meters, and thanks to its prime location directly on the glacier road, it’s the first choice for hiking and mountain tours.
Newly renovated, the house now offers even more comfort: rooms are heated, sanitary facilities have been updated, the entire building is well-insulated, and new windows ensure warmth and a pleasant atmosphere.
We open on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
The alpine hut is the starting point for many hikes, summit- and glacier tours: Weißseespitze, Glockturm, Vordere und Hintere Ölgrubenspitze - popular 3000 m summits which can be climbed directly from the hut. Other attractions are the Klettergarten as well as the Holderli Seppl Klettersteig. Both can be reached by a 15 minutes walk.
In 2021, the Kaunertal Nature Park & Glacier Region, in the heart of which the Gepatschhaus is located, was named one of 44 "Best Tourism Villages" worldwide by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The award relates in particular to the topics of economic, social and ecological sustainability and accessibility and stands for sustainable tourism in our region.
More than 170 regions from 75 countries applied for the "Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO" in 2021.
